Singers in the Delta are invited to show off their talents and help a good cause.

     The organizing committee finalized plans Thursday for the United Way of Washington County's fund-raising kickoff.

    The event will be Thursday, Aug. 28, at Harlow’s Casino Resort & Spa, from 5:30 until 8 p.m. The theme will be karaoke.

    WXVT’s Woodrow Wilkins will be master of ceremonies.

   Admission is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. The cost to reserve a table for 10 is $80. Proceeds will benefit the 15 member agencies that provide programs and services.

    The agencies are: Delta 180, DRMC’s Medication Assistance Program, Girl Scouts Heart of the South, Greater Greenville Habitat for Humanity, Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA, Leland Habitat for Humanity, Our House, United Way Housing Initiative, The ARC, the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, the Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts of America, Community Counseling Center, the Northwest Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Washington County Anti-Drug Community Partnership.

    Participating restaurants will provide food samples. They are Dodge’s Store, Domino’s pizza, Garfield’s Pub & Eatery, Harlow’s, Jo’s Personal Touch and Catering, Lauren Farms Catfish Fillets and Freshwater Prawns, McDonald’s, Papa John’s pizza, Scoops Ice Cream and Grill, Sho Nuff Hot Tamales and Shotgun House Barbecue.

    The United Way’s fund-raising goal for the 2014-15 campaign is $300,000.

    In addition to the admission for the kickoff, guests can make additional contributions during the karaoke contest. Guests must pay $5 to vote on the singers. And people in the audience may be asked to sing. For $20, they can opt out.

   Harlow’s is providing prizes for the contest winners.
